Providing good books or setting up libraries to inculcate the habit of reading or inculcate a love of reading in the general public, especially the youth, will not work. It is not possible to start reading books on Facebook and WhatsApp on mobile and other social media and television wasting hours. If you give them a book on any subject for free, even a collection of novels or fiction, they will put it aside or take it home and put it in a corner. For this, they have to awaken interest in them, the intensity of this interest should be such that they leave Facebook, YouTube, and WhatsApp to adopt reading or at least give a little time to study. But the question is how to create a passion for reading? And who will do it and why? We don't even care what our children are taught in schools. After paying the school fees, we are relieved by our child, and if there is any concern, we tutor the younger children and send the older children to the coaching center. While our own situation is that we spend hours in the political arena in the name of dramas, movies, music, and talk shows on television, or we get lost in the above-mentioned things on mobile or we waste hours gossiping on the phone. Although the situation is not entirely hopeless, books are being published, bought, read and publishers are making money. If you can't believe it, you can visit the bookshops in your city, the occasional book fair and if you live in Karachi, you can visit the Karachi International Book Fair held every year at the Expo Center. But in terms of the country's population, the rate is very low. And in general, there is no tendency to study.
The real problem is how to instill a love of reading in people. Someone has to start somewhere else in this regard. Let's start with ourselves first. First of all, let's create a passion in ourselves in this regard, let's examine what is the end of knowledge? And what is the significance of this and find the answer to the question where can knowledge be obtained? From the internet or from books? But who will answer these questions? Google, teachers, scholars, engineers, scientists, or anyone else? And what do you have to do about that? And don't get bored with these questions and give up the pursuit of knowledge.
Basically, the centers of learning are our schools or educational institutions and should be. But unfortunately, they have forgotten this basic duty years ago. In the cycle of economic struggle, the curriculum has been changed so much that it has become only a source of employment. Our schools, colleges, and universities have everything, but not knowledge. Because knowledge is what makes the difference between humans and animals. We do not believe in the Western notion that man is a social animal.
What is knowledge? We have to know the answer from the One who created us and created us, that is, from our Lord, who taught us knowledge. At the time of the creation of Adam (peace be upon him), the angels were afraid and asked in the presence of God whether He was creating a creature that would cause mischief on earth. Allah had said to him, "You do not know what I know." And Allah taught Adam some names, then in front of the angels told him to tell those names, then Adam told him those names. So God said to the angels, "I did not say that you do not know what I know." In reply, the angels said, "Glory be to You, and Allah prostrated to Adam on the command of the Lord of Glory. Details of this are found in various places in the Holy Qur'an. The commentators have written that Allah Almighty had taught Adam (as) many sciences. And then the revelation of the heavenly books to various prophets continued, in which the oppressors distorted and changed the teachings of God. Our Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) was the last prophet, no prophet will come after him. The Holy Qur'an was revealed to the pure heart of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and Allah Almighty Himself has taken the responsibility of its protection and it is still the same as it was revealed to the pure heart of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). The importance of knowledge has been emphasized in various places in the Holy Qur'an. The words of the first revelation were read. Therefore, the importance of knowledge will become clear from the study of Qur'an and Hadith.
The basic difference between humans and animals is knowledge. And knowledge is that which is a benefactor, not a profit of money, but a refinement and refinement of a person's personality. Bring light from darkness to light, for ignorance is darkness and knowledge is light. When it becomes clear to you how important knowledge is, make friends with the book, think that there is no better friend than the book. It would be better to study the golden sayings in this regard first.
