The Qur'an and Hadith place special emphasis on treating parents well. Allah Almighty has commanded His monotheism and worship in many places and has also commanded to treat the parents well, which shows the importance of obedience to the parents, their service, and their politeness and respect. The hadiths also emphasize the importance and virtue of obedience to parents. May Allah make us all treat our parents well. Make them obedient. Make them pay their dues.
Quranic verses:
''And your Lord has clearly commanded that you worship none but Him. And be kind to your parents. If one or both of them reach old age in your presence, do not say f in front of them, do not reprimand them, but talk to them politely and respectfully. And keep the arm of humility low in front of them with humility and love. And keep on praying: O my Lord! Have mercy on them as they raised me in my childhood''....(Surah Bani Israel 23,24)
Disobedience of parents, expression of anger and dislike is also forbidden and gentle conversation with literature has been ordered '' وَلَاَ تْنہَرْ ہُمَا وقُلْ لَّہُما قَوْلًا کَرِیْمَا''At the same time, it is commanded to behave with humility and compassion while lowering one's arms ''واخْفِضْ لَہُمَا جَنَاحَ الذُّلِّ مِنَ الرَّحْمۃِ''And the command to pray for parents throughout life doubles their importance ''وقُلْ رَّبِّ ارْحَمْہماکَما رَبّیَانِی صَغِیْرًا'' And worship Allah, all of you, and do not associate anything with Him, and be kind to your parents. (Surah Alnisa 36)
''We have exhorted every human being to treat his parents well'' (Surah Alankboot 8)
Hadiths:
''Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) which deed is more beloved to Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Perform the prayer on time. Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I said which action is more pleasing to Allah after this? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Obedience to parents. Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I said, "Which deed is more beloved to Allah after this?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: Jihad in the way of Allaah''. (Al Bukhari)
''Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) says that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) and said: I want to swear allegiance to Allah Almighty with the hope of reward for migration and jihad. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Are any of your parents alive? The man said: (Praise be to God) both are life. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) asked him: Do you really seek a great reward from Allaah? He said yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Go to your parents and serve them''. (Al Muslim)
''A man came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and asked: Who is most deserving of my kindness? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Your mother. The man asked, "Then who?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Your mother. He asked, "Then who?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Your mother. He asked, "Then who?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Your father''. (Al Bukhari)
''The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: The father is the best of the gates of Paradise. So you have the option of destroying this door (by disobeying it and showing your heart) or guarding this door (by obeying and pleasing him)''. (Al Tirmzi)
In the light of Qur'an and Hadith, the Muslim Ummah agrees that disobedience to parents is a great sin. The anger of the parents causes the anger of Allah Almighty. Therefore, we must not fail to obey our parents. Especially when one of the parents or both of them reach old age, they should be reprimanded even if they should not be told off. They should be served with respect and love and sincerity. You may not like some of their words or deeds due to old age, but you should be patient with it, Allah will give you a great reward for this patience.
